Canon looks set to make 2023 the year of APS-C
When Canon got serious with mirrorless cameras and lenses, they focused entirely on developing full-frame options. Of course, many users prefer APS-C cameras because of their lower price, smaller form factor, and wider reach. It looks like those users will be happy in 2023, with more APS-C cameras and lenses on the way.
Canon rumor is Report that Canon will release at least three RF-S lenses in 2023, with the RF-S 11-22mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM being one of them. The EF-M 11-22mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM is popular for providing a lot of image quality in a portable and low-cost device, and I expect the RF-S version to be as well. I have think long term that Canon will quietly phase out the EF-M line after they set up the RF line a bit, and it seems likely that will be the case. Camera like EOS R7 and EOS R10 showed the company could produce capable APS-C cameras and with EOS R8 and three RF-S lenses are waiting, it looks like 2023 will be the year of the crop sensor (not that that also rules out a full-frame release). Sure, it would be nice to have more options from the company, especially at a lower price point!
