Canon EOS R3 studio scene published: Digital photography review

The sensor in the Canon EOS R3 is key to the image quality the camera can achieve, and it’s Canon’s first ‘stacked’ CMOS sensor to date. Let’s take a quick look at how it compares to other cameras with similar pixel counts.

Ours The test scene is designed for simulation variety of textures, colors, and textures you’ll encounter in the real world. It also has two lighting modes to see the effect of different lighting conditions.

We’ll get into the full analysis in our full review, but we can clearly see that the R3 turns out to be competitive in its segment. The difference between it and other cameras of similar resolution is mainly due to their anti-aliasing filters (or in more consumer-oriented models, lack).

Let’s also briefly look at dynamic range.

We’re curious to what extent – if at all – the EOS R3’s super-fast electronic shutter can add noise, and the answer seems to be ‘not much’. You have to go into super deep darkness, pushing 5 to 6 stops, to really see the difference. It’s a promising result and shows that you can use the electronic shutter in almost any situation without worrying about a significant impact on image quality.
