Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday said he has tested positive for Covid-19, but “feels fine” and will continue to work remotely.
The announcement was made in a tweet, in which he urged people to “get vaccinated and stay healthy.”
On Thursday, Trudeau said he would be isolated for five days after discovering the previous evening he had been in contact with someone who tested positive. He told The Canadian Press on Friday that the person was one of his three children.
Trudeau had previously been isolated at home during the early months of the pandemic after his wife tested positive.
Canada has one of the highest rates of vaccination against coronavirus in the world – shots designed primarily to keep infected people from getting very sick.
The announcement came after a weekend of protests in the Canadian capital, Ottawa, against vaccine, mask and lockdown regulations. Some protesters traveled in convoys of trucks and parked in the streets around Parliament Hill, causing traffic jams.
