The Jockey Club of Canada announced on February 18 while publishing the results of the committee’s annual review that the number of bets in Canada has been reduced to 40.
Northern Cheer (G1T), Nijinsky Stakes (G2T) and Kings Arena (G2T) bets will not return in 2022, and Pattison Canadian International (G1T) will be suspended.
The Commission reviewed North American Race Commission figures and Race Quality Scores for all classified stock races in Canada. All in all, the review shows a slight decline in the performance of most classified equity races across Canada. These numbers will remain in the historical record and be used to upgrade, downgrade or book to track any individual race. Although 2020 is recognized as an extraordinary year, the NARC figures and the 2021 RQS numbers have been reviewed and analyzed according to historical standards. However, the committee is fully aware of the possibility that some of the effects of the 2020-21 COVID-19 pandemic may continue into the future.
After reviewing the NARC figures and RQS numbers for all listed races and black races in Canada, the committee determined that the Highlander Stakes (G1T) would be downgraded to tier 2 and Ballerina Stakes (G1T) status. G3) will be downgraded to the listed state. Ascot Graduation Stakes and British Columbia Oaks are required to re-apply for black type status, which will not operate in 2020 or 2021.
