Can we put a supercapacitor in a bicycle? (Video)


E-bikes typically use lithium batteries: the energy stored there powers the electric motor. But there is an interesting energy storage alternative called super capacitor, which is actually used in some cars. So if cars use them, can we put a supercapacitor in an electric bike?

Supercapacitors work differently than lithium cells. The main difference is their charging and discharging speed, which is several times faster than other modern batteries. However, this advantage has an annoying drawback: the amount of energy stored in these fast charging elements is dozens of times less for the same mass.

In automobiles, supercapacitors are commonly used in energy recovery systems. But what if these electrical storage elements were placed in a bicycle? Watch the following video for the answer:
