Brown wins seventh consecutive Belmont coaching title

Chad Brown has set a seventh consecutive title expansion record at Belmont Park spring/summer meeting with 47 wins, the most ever by a coach at a spring/summer meeting in Belmont. Irad Ortiz Jr is the driver with 48 wins, while Michael Dubb leads with 16 wins at the 44-day meeting (April 28 to July 10).

The previous coaching record of 44 wins, set by David Jacobson at the Spring/Summer 2013 56-day meeting, was broken when the boy was just 3 years old. Respect for needs graduating in fourth place required the 4th of July special maiden weight on the main track.

“My team should be very proud of themselves and proud of what they’ve done,” Brown said of the meeting record-setting. “Obviously, it was never done, and they deserved every bit of it.”

Brown’s success at the meeting included 12 ranked wins, punctuated by a remarkable Belmont Stakes racing weekend when he scored four 1st place wins with Jack Christopher (Woody Stephens shares presented by Mohegan Sun, G1); King of Glory (Longines Just a Game Stakes, G1); Bleecker Street (New York Stock, G1); and Tribhuvan (Resorts World Casino Manhattan Stakes, G1). On Saturday, the 3-year-old McKulick delivered a sparkling performance to win the Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1T), giving Brown a sixth win in that event.

“This is a historic meeting for me, my team, my clients and most importantly the horses, who do all the work,” Brown said. “I’m a very lucky person to be with the horses, staff and owners. I’m so happy for all of them.”

Christophe Clement is second with 33 wins and Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher is third with 25 games.

Ortiz said he was honored to ride for Brown.

“He broke the record this year, so that’s something no one can forget. It’s hard to win so many races,” Ortiz said. “He’s a great trainer and he knows what he’s doing with his horses. I’m happy for him and I’m glad he gave me the opportunity to ride those types of horses. “
