I met the now legendary actress, model brand founder on a cloudy and humid Wednesday in New York (the fall weather is crisp, feel free to come anytime!), yet despite the elements, her hair looks salon fresh, cascading into soft, bouncy waves that somehow defy the sticky air. How did she do it? Luckily, I didn’t have to wonder for too long. Shields blessed me with all of her weather-defying hair tips, including a line of products that she swears will repair four-day-old damaged hair. Explore every detail below!

Detangling agent enhances shine
First, to absorb excess oil, she applies it 2 in 1 instant shampoo at the roots, making sure to reach the inner part where the scalp meets the neck. “I don’t want to brush my hair too much because that’s not good either,” she notes. Instead, she strokes her hair to mix the product—which, by the way, leaves no powder residue—until it’s fully absorbed into her scalp.
She did not run her fingers along the length of her hair so as not to break the curls. However, she will use it Detangling agent enhances shine to smooth out any knots and snarls that may have built up over time. “When I work out, tie my hair in a ponytail, or go for a walk in the wind, that’s when I primarily use a detangling tool,” Shields explains. She would spray the hose all the way down her length and then rub her hair to disperse the product.

“I can use it mid-day on dry hair,” adds Shields. “There is no buildup. It’s like a protective layer that acts as a buffer between pollution [and] outside.” She also uses it to French braid her daughter’s hair before bed and says her strands eagerly absorb all those hair-nourishing ingredients overnight. “In the morning, that is [totally] dry,” Shields mentioned the lack of residue.

Shields agrees that this duo is a top pick for second-day, third-day hair (“I even did it on day four and it turned out better,” she notes), But for those *really* old hairstyles that are begging for a little more volume, she uses 3 in 1 conditioner instead of. In fact, it provides the essential moisture her hair needs to maintain volume and softness, “especially after flying,” she notes.
