Britney Spears has released her first new track since the end of her conservatorship – with the pop star exclaiming it was “awesome” and “overwhelming” to be sung again – and with superpower of the global music industry Sir Elton John.

The single – Hold Me Closer – was the 40-year-old American pop star’s first single in six years and was a remix of several songs by Sir Elton.

The much-anticipated duet combines his 1971 hit Tiny Dancer with his 1992 song The One, while parts of Don’t Go Breaking My Heart from 1976 are also featured on the song. .

Spear tweeted: Okie dokie…my first song in 6 years!!!! It’s so cool that I’m singing with one of the most classic men of our time… @eltonofficial!!!! I’m a bit overwhelmed…it’s a big deal for me!!! I am meditating more and learning my space is valuable and precious!!!

“I want to be fearless like when I was young and not be afraid and afraid like that. I pray for truth to the Holy Spirit and I hope that spirit is with my children too!! Yes… I choose happiness and joy today!!!

In an official statement, Spears thanked Sir Elton for the “opportunity to work with you and your legendary mind”, adding: “We’re delighted the fans are hearing that!”

Spears is famous from her job as bodyguard – that has controlled almost every aspect of her life and finances for more than 13 years – in November 2021 following the court ruling.

The legal settlement was struck in 2008 after the star was reported to have suffered from mental health issues.

Her father, Jamie Spears, has largely taken control since then.

He stopped managing his daughter’s personal affairs in 2019 but remained in charge of her finances, until he was dismissed by a judge earlier this year.

As she struggled with the controversial legal settlement to the end, she said she would not return to making music while her father was at the helm.

Earlier this week, Sir Elton teased the single with a “stealth” video clip of a DJ playing music at La Guerite beach restaurant, in Cannes, France.

Sir Elton, 75, told The Guardian that the idea to collaborate with Spears – who he says must approve the music – came from his husband, David Furnish.

“She’s been gone for so long – there’s a lot of fear there, because she’s been betrayed so many times and she hasn’t really appeared in the public eye for a long time.” I said.

“We held her hand throughout the process, reassuring her that everything was going to be okay.”

Despite a judge ending her guardianship, the legal battle over her father’s alleged misconduct while the order was made continues.
