British toddler drowns in swimming pool in Spain despite neighbor’s rescue efforts | World News

A British child has drowned in a swimming pool in Costa Blanca, Spain, despite the efforts of a neighbour.

The 19-month-old boy was pulled out of the water unconscious at around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

An air ambulance arrived at a private swimming pool in Aigues, a small village north of Alicante and southwest of Benidorm, when a neighbor tried to save the boy’s life.

Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police investigation into the tragedy is underway and sources have confirmed the youngster killed was British.

It is not yet known whether the child is on vacation with his family or lives in Spain.

A local media report said the family had recently moved to the area, but this has not been confirmed.

A spokesman for the regional government’s emergency response coordination center said: “At 6:15pm on Wednesday, we were informed that a boy had been pulled from a private swimming pool in Aigues.

“We have mobilized an air ambulance and a basic life support ambulance.

“A neighbor performed resuscitation techniques until medical response teams arrived.

“When they got there, paramedics continued advanced CPR and other resuscitation techniques but they were unable to save the child, a 19-month-old child was pronounced dead at the scene. “

The British Foreign Office has confirmed the death of the British boy.

An FCDO spokesman told Sky News: “We are supporting the family of a British child, who passed away in Spain. Our thoughts are with the family at a very sad time. this”.

The incident took place in a private residence called El Paraiso in Aigues, which is home to less than 1,000 people.

The boy’s death came after two others in the area had British nationals – both on 9 May.

Ingrid Dale, a 67-year-old expat from Norfolk, died after suffering an allergic reaction to a wasp sting at a restaurant in the coastal town of Moraira.

Paul Lebihan, a native of Gateshead, drowned in a river near Benidorm while trying to save a dog.
