Although Errol Spence Jr has scored a number of notable victories throughout his career, the former US Olympic runner may have scored his most impressive just last night.
A crowd of nearly 40,000 people filled AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and screamed to climax when Spence Jr stabbed Yordanis Ugas. Before the Dallas star continued to dominate throughout the second half, Ugas confused his senior early on. In the fourth round, Ugas rocked Spence Jr with a brief inward punch, knocking down his mouthguard. The Cuban-born player continued to keep up the momentum in the sixth inning, bullying Spence Jr against the rope as his hometown crowd watched in horror.
However, despite his initial troubles, Spence Jr eventually found his rhythm. In the seventh round, the unified welterweight champion landed left on the inside, rendering Ugas’ right eye essentially useless. From that point on, Spence continued to aim at his man’s right eye and eventually, forced a ring doctor to stop their duel.
With Spence Jr now adding Ugas’ WBA trinket to his IBF and WBC collections, he took the time to name Crawford, the WBO beltweight star weightlifter.
Spence Jr said: “Terence, I came for that mother’s f*cking belt as the Dallas crowd cheered in approval.
But while Spence Jr was universally praised for his grit, endurance and overall superiority, Brian “Bomac” McIntyre, Crawford’s head coach, made his bold prediction about the game. What will happen between his boxer and the fusion star.
“We’ll see how it goes,” McIntyre said on his social media account. “Mark my words!”
McIntyre’s unwavering confidence in his weight stardom stems from years of dominating the competition. With Omaha, Nebraska native brutalized his final nine opponents before the final bell rang, including arguably the best career performance against Shawn Porter on his final trip to ring – McIntyre and Crawford for that matter, very nervous to face Next is Spence Jr.
