Featherweight 22-1-1 Brandon Figueroa took on Carlos Castro 27-1 at San Antonio’s Alamodome on Saturday night. The scheduled round 12 was broadcast live on Showtime and was the WBC title remover. Castro aims to maintain range for the first time. However, Figueroa’s surge was very aggressive. Figueroa landed pretty well in the second half. The third game saw Castro hit the mat and barely beat the count.
With less than a minute left in half, Figueroa exploded, shooting long, hoping to end it all before the bell rang. Still, Castro remained on high alert. Needless to say, the man survived the match. Castro fought to avoid the rope in the fourth inning, though he no longer seemed in danger. Castro fought very well in the fifth round, as did Figueroa.
Both men fought on the inside in the sixth installment. The fight was a grueling one, but certainly undeniably the hearts of both warriors. However, the match will not make it to the seventh round. Because Figueroa was knocked down when he put Castro on the rope again, causing the referee to stop the match.
