Boris Johnson accepts Northern Ireland stalemate over Brexit deal he signed

Boris Johnson has accepted that the political impasse in Northern Ireland is a “direct consequence” of the Brexit deal he signed.

Speaking to the BBC’s political editor, Chris Mason, the prime minister insisted the Northern Ireland Protocol “has a lot to say”, but needs to be fixed as it is currently “out of balance” in its interpretation.

Mr Johnson was at Hillsborough Castle to encourage Northern Ireland’s parties to reorganize after the council election.

The Democratic Unionist Party has so far refused to back it up until the government takes “decisive action” on post-Brexit trade deals.
