Body found in search of underage girl in underwater incident in Stalybridge | News Video News UK

The body of a teenage girl has been pulled from the water in Greater Manchester.

Emergency services were called to the scene in the town of Stalybridge just before 6:30pm yesterday.

The body was recovered overnight from Carrbrook, a village east of Stalybridge.

The Northern Ambulance Service (NWAS) sent “several resources” including the Hazardous Area Response Team to the incident.

Formal identification has taken place and trained officers are assisting her family.

Detective Inspector Steven Horton, of Tameside CID, said: “Last night’s events were nothing short of horrific and my thoughts are with the friends and family of the young girl who lost her life in terrible circumstances. so terrible.

“We are doing all we can to support the girl’s family at this extremely difficult time and our focus is on ensuring they get the answers they deserve about how this tragedy happened. how come out.”

He added: “From our inquiries to date, we are confident that there have been no suspicious cases and this is a sad reminder of the dangers of entering open water, regardless of the circumstances. weather.”

“We remind the public to avoid being enticed to cool off in reservoirs, rivers, canals or ponds.

This summer has seen an increase in the number of tragic drownings caused by people swimming to cool off during the intense heatwave.
