Actor and comedian Bob Saget, who was was found dead in a hotel room in Orlando, Fla., last month, died of a head injury, according to a statement from his family.

“Authorities have determined that Bob has survived a head injury,” Saget’s family said in a statement published by Everyone. “They concluded that he accidentally hit his head on something, didn’t think about it, and went to sleep. It had nothing to do with drugs or alcohol.”

Saget’s family added that they were “overwhelmed with the incredible overflowing love” from his fans, saying the support was a “great consolation” for them.

“Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities’ investigation, we feel it is only appropriate for fans to hear those conclusions directly from us,” the family continued. “As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught all of us: to treat Be kind to people, let those you love know you love them, and face the tough times with hugs and laughter.”

Saget was on a comedy tour and had done a gig near Jacksonville, Fla., the day before.

The 65-year-old appeared prominently on American television screens throughout the 1990s as father Danny Tanner in Happy home and the owner of America’s Funniest Homepage Videos.

He is also the narrator on the show How I meet your Mother from 2005 to 2014 and reprising his role as Danny Tanner on the Netflix reboot Fuller House from 2016 to 2020. And Saget often plays herself or parodies herself in one-off or recurring roles in TV shows and movies.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida said deputies were called to the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando after an unresponsive man was found in one of its rooms.

Authorities identified the man as Saget – saying he died at the scene, with no signs of play or drug use.

NPR’s James Doubek and Rachel Treisman contributed to this report.
