For 2024, the BMW R 1300 GS has been significantly updated, including a new and more powerful Boxer engine, a new sheet metal main frame, a new cast aluminum subframe, next-generation suspension, and more. For 2025, the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure has been added to the lineup, with a few changes that make the bike even more capable for long-distance touring and adventure riding.
The 2025 R 1300 GS Adventure benefits from the upgrades made to the base GS, including a 1,300cc boxer engine that produces 145 horsepower at 7,750 rpm and 110 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm. The new engine is also 9 lbs lighter than the previous 1,254cc unit, while the entire powertrain is 14 lbs lighter.
Another upgrade for the GS and GSA is the laser-welded sheet metal main frame and cast aluminum subframe, which are said to be lighter, stiffer, narrower, and more tightly bonded to the main frame. The Telelever and Paralever suspensions have been replaced by next-generation EVO Telelever and Paralever suspensions. Both bikes have received significant styling updates, including the replacement of the signature asymmetrical headlights with a centrally-mounted X-shaped headlight. The BMW R 1300 GSA differs from the GS in a few key ways that make it more capable for long-distance adventures. Most notable is the large 7.9-gallon fuel tank, which holds nearly three gallons more than the GS. This large tank has rubber trays on both sides that can hold tools and supplies when you’re stopped.
The GSA also has more suspension travel than the GS, from 7.5 inches up front and 7.9 inches in the rear to 8.3 inches up front and 8.7 inches in the rear, the same travel as on the previous R 1250 GS Adventure. The seat height is 34.3-35.0 inches, which can be lowered to 33.1-33.9 inches when stopped when equipped with the optional Adaptive Ride Height Control. The wheels on the GSA are wire-spoked compared to the cast wheels on the GS, and the GSA weighs 593 pounds wet compared to the GS’s 523 pounds.
The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure also includes a few extras not available on the GS. While the GS comes with a short Sport windscreen, the GSA has a large windscreen as standard with two large transparent wind deflectors. Riders can also choose to purchase an electrically adjustable windscreen option. The GSA also includes an engine guard and center stand as standard, adding to the more rugged GSA’s adventure-ready attitude.
Electronics on the GSA include a 6.5-inch TFT display with connectivity, Full Integral ABS Pro, Active Brake Control, Active Cruise Control, Active Engine Brake Control, Active Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, keyless ignition, three riding modes, heated steering wheel, full LED lighting, USB-C charging port, 12-volt power outlet and Smart Emergency Call.
An interesting option for the GSA is the Automatic Shift Assistant, in which two electromechanical actuators automate the clutch and gear shifting of the 6-speed gearbox, completely eliminating the need to use the clutch lever manually.

Other optional technologies include Ride Modes Pro with three additional driving modes, Electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment, Adaptive Ride Height Control, Headlight Pro with adaptive headlights and Riding Assistant with Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Lane Change Warning.
The GSA is designed to be refined, and BMW offers a wide range of accessories for it. Riders will notice three fixings on the upper tank cover, which are designed to accommodate the optional 12-litre tank bag with waterproof inner bag. A range of aluminium side and top boxes are available, as well as items to enhance passenger comfort, wind protection, heated seats and more.
GSA owners can also choose from a range of optional packages. The Premium Package includes Ride Modes Pro, sport brakes, Riding Assistant, Shift Assistant Pro or Automated Shift Assistant, Headlight Pro, GPS prep, chrome exhaust, power windshield, aluminum side rails and aluminum top rails. The Enduro Pro Package includes raised handlebars, short enduro levers, height-adjustable GS Vario rider footpegs, hand guards and front turn signal shift levers.
The base model BMW R 1300 GS Adventure 2025 will be available in Racing Red. The Style Triple Black version, with a large aluminium radiator with bag holder, a heated comfort seat, luggage rack and a tall windscreen with large wind deflectors, is available in black.
The Style GS Trophy version comes in Racing Blue and Racing Red, and includes a smaller sports windscreen and passenger sports grips, a large radiator guard with bag holders and an aluminium fuel tank tray.
The Option 719 Karakorum version is available in Aurelius Green with yellow accents and includes small aluminum radiator grilles, protective grilles over the auxiliary headlights, heated comfort seats for the driver and passenger, luggage racks and a small Sport windshield.
The 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure will be available in the fourth quarter of 2024 and pricing will be announced closer to market launch.
