BMW i7 xDrive60 to get a battery range of up to 800 km; an even more powerful “M70” variant to join the lineup?
The upcoming, all-electric version of the BMW 7 Series, the i7 will boast a battery range of up to 500 miles, or 800 km according to BMW USA websiteand this version will be called i7 xDrive60.
Range figures from BMW USA’s website translate to a WLTP test range of 580 to 610 km which, according to details revealed by BMW previously, places it within the range of BMW’s ballpark. iX. According to the German website Bimmer todaythe i7’s xDrive60 variant designation doesn’t have an ‘M’, compared to the range-topping iX variant’s designation as M60.
The website reports that BMW’s head of development, Frank Weber, has hinted to the US press that there will be an even more powerful performance model to sit above the xDrive60 and one with the letter M. in its name; Initial speculation suggested that the performance version of the EV sedan could be named “i7 M70”.
For comparison, the iX M60 is currently the most powerful EV in the BMW line-up boasting 619 PS and 1,100 Nm of torque, and the i7 xDrive60 can deliver similar output figures. This means that any M model will offer significantly more; For reference, the iX M60 with this powertrain can run from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and a limited top speed of 250 km/h.
As for the upcoming i7 xDrive60, its battery range is slightly longer than the iX M60’s 566 km, and the flagship electric sedan can pack an even larger battery pack than the 105.2 kWh lithium-ion pack in the iX M60 to achieve longer range figures.
As the successor to the current 7 Series and also the one with more than 600 PS, the i7 xDrive60 looks set to replace the internal combustion system entirely. M760Li xDrive supports V12produces 585 PS of power and 850 Nm of torque, which is also sent to all four wheels.
Naturally, the best seats in a car such as the 7 Series are in the rear, and the upcoming generation of the German brand’s flagship sedan has proven to have a 31-inch, full-sized Theater Monitor. 8K resolution in 32:9 ultra-wide format, and deploy from the roof liner.
There are more enhancements along the cabin of the upcoming 7 Series, where the lighting and function strips along the dashboard and doors will provide a visual and tactile interaction with the vehicle’s occupants. Dubbed the BMW Interaction Bar, it’s part of the 7 Series’ ambient lighting system and its LED filaments can be individually adjusted, the manufacturer says.
