Blackpink’s Jennie to star on HBO’s The Idol With The Weeknd
HBO is exploiting real-life pop stars Jennie Kim for new series Idol.
The network has released the first teaser for the upcoming show, starring the actors Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and Lily DeppJuly 17th and fans found out Blackpink member plays a background dancer in the video. With the cat out of the bag, July 18 HBO confirmed that the K-pop singer is an actress, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo of Jennie on set.
Idol marks one of Jennie’s first roles, although it’s not her first time in front of the camera. She previously starred in the reality series Village Survival, The Eight and the documentary Blackpink. “I found the script very appealing, so I wanted to be a part of the drama,” she told South Korean news site Yonhap. “I feel very excited. I will work hard, so please watch me with affection.”
The role suits Jennie quite well, with the series following pop star Jocelyn, played by Lily. Less related to Jennie is Jocelyn’s tumultuous relationship with a self-help guru (The Weeknd).
