Best iPhone 13 chargers: we tested

Know what’s frustrating? Open your box shiny new iPhone 13, remove the Lightning to USB-C cable, and then remember that Apple no longer includes a wall adapter with any model.

If it’s been several years since you upgraded your iPhone, chances are you don’t have a USB-C wall plug to work with your new Lightning to USB-C cable. And while your old iPhone charger will still work, it won’t fast charge iPhone 13″ – an important feature if you are short on battery and time.

To help narrow down which 20-watt USB-C wall adapter works best with iPhone, we’ve tested a few of them and picked one that’s worth your money.

Fastest charger

Apple’s charger beats the rest of the competition, charging an iPhone 13 to 99% in 90 minutes. It also registers the shortest amount of time before the Apple logo appears on the screen, after 1 minute 40 seconds, indicating that the phone has enough power to turn on.

Cheapest (and almost fastest) charger

The charging speed of Nano Pro is practically the same as that of Apple products. The Apple logo appears at 1 minute 48 seconds and after 90 minutes of charging, the iPhone battery level is 99% – the same as Apple’s USB-C Wall Adapter.

More versatile charger

For just under $30 you can buy Nomad’s 30W USB-C AC Adapter. While it does deliver 30W of charging power, it won’t charge an iPhone 13 any faster than the Apple USB-C Power Adapter or the Anker Nano Pro.

Apple's 20W USB-C Power Adapter

Apple’s 20W USB-C power adapter has a bad rap. We assume it’s because Apple doesn’t include it in the box and charges $20 for an accessory you need to effectively charge your iPhone. But as it turns out, Apple’s own charger beat the rest of the competition, charging iPhone 13″ to 99% in 90 minutes. It also registers the shortest amount of time before the Apple logo appears on the screen, after 1 minute 40 seconds, indicating that the phone has enough power to turn on.

One downside of Apple’s USB-C power adapter is its size. It’s much larger than the classic 5-watt plug that Apple used to include in the box, and larger than more impressive plugs like the Anker Nano Pro.

Anker 511 Nano Pro

Anker’s 511 Nano Pro USB-C charger offers 20W charging, the same as Apple’s power adapter, and typically costs the same $19.99. Here’s our pick for the basic USB-C phone charger too.

The charging speed of Nano Pro is practically the same as that of Apple products. The Apple logo appears at 1 minute 48 seconds and after 90 minutes of charging, the iPhone battery level is 99% – the same as Apple’s USB-C Wall Adapter.

It’s a small charger that packs a punch, and it comes in four different colors: white, black, lavender, and blue. This way doesn’t take up much space and can suit your personality.

Nomad . 30W AC Adapter

For just under $30 you can buy Nomad’s 30W USB-C AC Power Adapter. While it does deliver 30W of charging power, it won’t charge an iPhone 13 any faster than the Apple USB-C Power Adapter or the Anker Nano Pro. In our testing, the Apple logo appeared after 2 minutes and 57 seconds – the longest period of any of our tests – but at the 90-minute mark, the iPhone 13 charged 98%.

What we like about the Nomad 30W charger is that it provides a little more power to charge the rest of your devices, like the Nintendo Switch or iPad Pro, faster than the 20W products we cover here. .

Nomad’s chargers use GaN (gallium nitride) technology inside, which helps keep the charger compact while preventing the charger from overheating while in use.

Belkin USB-PD GaN 30W Charger ($29.99, amazon.com)

Belkin’s 30W adapter provides extra power and charges iPhone 13 to 98% in 90 minutes of charging. Like Nomad’s product, the Belkin GaN charger uses new technology to reduce its size and prevent it from overheating while charging your phone.

Anker 511 Nano ($16.99, amazon.com)

The 511 Nano is another 20W charger from Anker and is also available in a number of different colors. It charged the iPhone 13 from dead to 96% in 90 minutes. It’s compact, and while it doesn’t charge as fast as our top picks, it’s only a 3% difference – which isn’t really a deal-breaker.

Anker Nano II 45W ($39.99, amazon.com)

The 45W Nano II is the most powerful charger we’ve tested, however, it’s also the slowest when it comes to charging the iPhone 13. After 90 minutes, the iPhone’s battery was 96% charged – nothing to be angry about. It uses GaN technology to keep it small while still delivering 45W of power, which is more than enough for phones, tablets, and even some laptops.

Our exact test starts with a completely drained iPhone. We will start the timer the moment we connect the iPhone 13 to the power source, notice the Apple logo displayed on the screen of the iPhone and note the time. Once the phone was fully turned on, we unlocked it and let it connect to Wi-Fi. We then recorded how fast the iPhone was charging every 15 minutes for 90 minutes. We’ll then play a YouTube video to drain the iPhone’s battery and repeat the process for each charger. We used the same Nomad USB-C Lightning cable for every test in an effort to eliminate any unnecessary variables.
