Easiest way to describe Discord as a digital Roman forum — a huge community hub where you can shout out and listen to others scream. In a given server, there are games, commerce, combat, even law courts (if you count moderators). It’s a good analogy, but it’s flawed for one important reason: The ancients didn’t have bots.
Discord bots bring order to the complexity of online communication. All of the top Discord servers are filled with bots, providing much-needed security, structure, information, and entertainment. One can allow users to opt-in to roles so that others know their place in the community. Another person can provide relevant information on the price of a popular good — IRL or in a video game. There are voting bots, music bots, security bots. But unless you join dozens of Discord servers, you probably don’t know what’s there.

From a 5,000-person public Roblox server to 10-person online friend groups, here are bots that every server should have at least one of. These multifunctional bots provide the basic infrastructure and organization for a functioning and easy-to-navigate Discord server. They will allow you to assign roles (automatically or by allowing users to choose roles with emoji reactions), filter spam, set rules for users, and log controller events. browser, and they provide a host of other simple tools that are important for managing a large Discord server.
MEE6: MEE6 will work on any server. And live over 16 million. Bots are a ubiquitous and uniformly useful presence on servers with 15,000 or just five members, greeting new users with an automated message and kicking them out for spamming memes. MEE6 facilitates moderation, custom commands (like answering frequently asked questions), creates polls, and can log activity on Discord servers related to moderators.
For a special fee of $12 per month, MEE6 offers more advanced customization commands (like letting you know when a person is live on Twitch) and moderation capabilities.
Carl-bot: Carl-bot has a lot of the same functionality as MEE6, including up to 250 response roles and welcome messages. It can log events, create polls and limit spammers. More importantly, it allows users to implement some more advanced customization commands without paying premium fees. It’s just a bit harder to learn than MEE6, which has a simpler user interface. All in all, discord servers can get a little malicious. That’s what happens when you throw a bunch of anonymous gamers into a chat room. And now that Discord has become so popular, a lot of servers have spam problems. To keep your digital space safe, kind, and spam-free, consider adding a few of these bots:
Captcha.bot: When you join a new server with Captcha.bot, you will receive a direct message prompting you to verify that you are human. The user visits the Captcha.bot website, logs back into Discord, and passes a captcha to gain server access. It’s a great way to make sure your public server is for humans only (minus the bots you intentionally added!).
