Best Alternatives to Amazon Prime Perks (2022): Two-Day Delivery, Grocery Delivery

Two-day shipping alternatives

These days, almost every major retailer With traditional locations there is a way to get free and fast shipping, whether it’s by spending a certain amount or joining a rewards program. The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has also made online and in-store purchases more popular than ever. As a reminder, Amazon offers free two-day shipping on orders over $35 for non-Prime members.

Target offers free shipping on orders $35 or more and free two-day shipping on orders with Targeting RedCard. (Target also offers free curbside or in-store pickup — sometimes even on the same day.) There are two versions of Red card—One is a credit card and the other is a debit card linked to a bank account. Both versions get 5% off net users and free two-day shipping. There are also other perks, such as exclusive deals and longer returns. Formerly known as Cartwheel, Target circle is a free rewards program that gives members 1 percent back in-store credit, a 5 percent birthday coupon, and a host of other offers and deals. Some discounts are better than others, but because they’re free, it’s well worth joining.

One big perk of Prime is that on Amazon Prime Day (the two-day event usually held in the summer), you get access to strong and exclusive discounts. Well, big retailers like Target, Walmart, and Best Buy simultaneously host their own massive sales, and prices often match between stores.

Runner-up: Orders of at least $35 or more at Walmart Get free two-day shipping. Some items are eligible for free next-day shipping. Walmart also offers free in-store pickup. Retailers also have paid rewards program called W+ offers members free two-day or next-day shipping with no minimum purchase. It costs $98 per year or $13 per month. There is a free 30-day trial available.

An alternative to grocery delivery

Get your groceries via Amazon’s Whole Foods Marketplace? It’s an easy way to regularly stock up on essentials without going to the grocery store — especially during a pandemic. Having a Prime subscription gets you free grocery delivery (and other savings) if you hit your order threshold. But it’s not your only option.

Instacart Express

Instacart Express offers free same-day grocery and convenience store deliveries. It costs $99 per year or $10 per month, and members get free shipping on orders over $35 as well as reduced service fees. Instacart accept EBT like paying for groceries, and it allows members to shop for free at places like Costco (although prices are often higher than in-store prices). Retailer options vary by language, so check here to see what’s available in your area.

Only one Free two-week trial of Instacart Express, and usually has at least one promotional offer for eligible credit card users. You also don’t need a subscription to use Instacart, but shipping starts at $4 for same-day orders of $35 or more, and there are some fees that can add up, such as when you heavy order.

Amazon’s built-in, free music streaming service isn’t great unless you spend an extra $8 per month on Amazon Music Unlimited (without Prime, you can pay $10 per month for it). Sure, it offers lossless audio quality, but it has a poor interface and subpar music discovery tools. You have much better options out there. The obvious is Spotify PremiumBut it was its own problem at the moment. Our second favorite is Apple Music, which includes lossless audio, curated playlists, and a powerful library for $10 per month. Main Reading Alternatives

There are several benefits available to Amazon Prime members. You can select up to 10 titles at once from over 2,500 books, magazines and comics to read through the Kindle app. You also get access to First Book, where you can download one book for free each month before it’s released to the public. It’s tempting, but local library probably the best and cheapest way to gobble reading. The other best alternative comes from Amazon itself.

It can be a little weird to pay for an Amazon service after giving up your Prime membership, but hear us out: Kindle Unlimited is a huge leap forward over Prime Reading. It is $10 per month and gives members access to over a million free books (and audiobooks), compared to just 2,500 in the Prime Reading library. You don’t need a dedicated e-book reader—Free apps for iOS, Android, Mac, and PC are available.

Runner-up: Scribd is like a smaller, more varied mashup of Audible and Kindle Unlimited. The $10 per month paid subscription grants unlimited access to eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, and podcasts. You also get access to MUBI, CuriosityStream, and several other platforms. WIRED contributor Simon Hill signed up for Scribd Premium when he parted ways with Amazon. He says he likes it so far. There is a 30-day trial available.

Economical main prescription alternatives

The Prime Prescription Savings Card works at both Amazon Pharmacy and other pharmacies. It can make some prescription drug costs or copays cheaper, and those drugs can also be delivered to your door. Fortunately, these types of savings programs are easy to find and are often free to join.

Amazon’s prescription savings program is administered by this company, which has its own savings card. Registration is free. The card is accepted at more than 60,000 pharmacies nationwide. Inside Rx doesn’t offer delivery, but your local pharmacy might.

Runner-up: GoodRx is another popular choice for prescription savings cards and coupons. Registration is free and the card is accepted at pharmacies nationwide. There are also GoodRx gold, a paid subscription that offers home delivery of eligible drugs. It is accepted at fewer pharmacies, although there are still usable options. The personal plan costs $10 per month and the family plan is $20.

Alternatives to photo storage

Amazon offers free, unlimited cloud photo storage for Prime members, but only 5 gigabytes of video storage. There are many other choices.

Google Photos may have started as a completely free service, but now it offers up to 15 GB of storage before you have to pay. That 15GB is split between Google Drive, Gmail, and other Google services, so you’ll eventually want to use a Google One subscription to add more storage (yes. other benefits), starting at $2 per month for 100 GB. If you want to keep your Amazon Prime membership

You would be right to say that all of these a la carte options are… complicated. Amazon Prime is a double-edged sword — the convenience it offers can be hard to imagine without. Unfortunately, the only surefire way to save on Amazon Prime comes with some eligibility requirements. Students with a valid .edu email address can participate Main Student, paying $7 per month or $69 per year. Those who receive government support also qualify for a discounted Amazon Prime membership at $7 per month. Both rates are affected by the price change of the Prime membership, but these memberships are still a much better deal for those individuals who qualify.

Amazon Household is another option. It allows two adults (and a limited number of teens and/or children) to share Prime benefits. It can be a good choice for roommate or significant other, and it’s safer share password—Correct with all your payment information.
