Belfast: Sound of the city during Covid lockdown
During the coronavirus pandemic, cities around the world were empty as lockdown restrictions were implemented.
A PhD student from Queen’s University Belfast used this time to record her final research project.
Georgios Varoutsos used daily walks to capture the sounds of downtown Belfast.
Like many cities across the UK, Belfast was formerly dominated by the sound of human activity. During the lockdown, they are replaced with subtle industrial, urban and natural sounds.
BBC News NI merged Georgio’s audio files with drone footage shot in downtown Belfast during and after the lockdown.
