A source in the German delegation said: “German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock had an “open, friendly conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, along with Dutch Foreign Minister Hoekstra”.
“The conversation focused on supporting Ukraine in the field of military and reconstruction, as well as how to solve the much-needed global food export blockade from Ukraine,” the media said.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock made the announcement during her visit to Kyiv on Tuesday.
Embassies will start operating in limited numbers, Baerbock said, and Germany’s ambassador to Kyiv, Anka Feldhusen, will again represent Germany in Kyiv.
In his remarks, the foreign minister also said that Russian President Putin has become a victim of self-deception.
“He believes that Europe’s liberal and humanist values make us decadent and weak. The Ukrainians have proven that in fact the opposite. Free will makes you strong,” says Baerbock.
“And you know that you are fighting for your humanity against an army of mockery and terror. That is why your struggle marks a turning point in the world dispute between liberal democracy and autocracies,” she continued.
Baerbock also visited Babyn Yar, a historic site in Ukraine where massacres were carried out by Nazi forces during the Second World War. In March, Russian rockets struck near the memorial, located on the northern edge of Kyiv, which commemorates where more than 33,000 Jews were shot dead in 1941.
Zelensky, who is Jewish, tweeted at the time that the Russian attack was “history repeating itself.”
