Bayonetta

The iconic protagonist of the PlatinumGames’ franchise, Bayonetta is an Umbra Witch who awakens in the present after a 500-year slumber with no memory of her past. What is Umbra Witch, you ask? Well, they’re basically a clan of dark arts practitioners who, along with their counterparts, the Lumen Sages, work to maintain the balance of the forces of light and darkness. In the world. The Umbra witches were able to summon the Demons of the Underworld, while the Lumen Sages teamed up with the Angels of Paradiso.

Born as Cereza, Bayonetta’s parents, Balder and Rosa, were a Lumen Sage and Umbra Witch respectively. Bayonetta’s conception broke the sacred law between the two clans, leading to a deadly war in which the majority of the Lumen Sages were annihilated, leaving only Balder as the sole survivor.

Following the war, Balder was tricked by the Angels of Paradiso into setting off a series of events known as the Witch Hunt, which ultimately led to the destruction of the Umbra Witch clan. After her mother’s death, Bayonetta was sealed away by Jeanne to prevent Angel Paradiso from regaining her Left Eye, a powerful treasure that forms half of the World’s Eyes, the other half in the possession of Balder.

Jeanne

Before the events of the Clan Wars and Witch Hunt, Jeanne was next to lead the Umbra Witches. She grew up as Bayonetta’s best friend and rival and sealed her away after the destruction of House Umbra and the death of Bayonetta’s mother, Rosa.

In the present day, a corrupt Balder brainwashes Jeanne into an alliance with the Lumen Sages. She and Bayonetta met and fought several times in the first game, after which she regained consciousness and escaped Balder’s influence. The two teamed up to defeat Balder and the Angels of Paradiso before returning to normal, leading straight into the second game.

At the start of Bayonetta 2, Jeanne’s soul is dragged into Inferno after Gomorrah, one of Bayonetta’s demon summoners, breaks free of its binding and attacks Bayonetta. Jeanne is then absent for most of the game, but returns after Bayonetta arrives in Inferno and retrieves her friend’s lost soul.

Enzo

Introduced at the beginning of Bayonetta, Enzo offers a light dose of comic in both games, serving as a clumsy, vulgar informant who thinks of nothing but happiness. own interests and wealth. After a few narrow escapes from Angels of Paradiso, Enzo was then absent until the end of the first game.

He played a similar role in Bayonetta 2, once again fouling up with overly inconvenient attacks from the Angels of Paradiso. After the action-packed opening, Enzo returns to guide Bayonetta to Fimbulventr, the main setting for the second game.

Despite not appearing for much of the series, Enzo is still an important and fan-favorite character, if nothing more than his goofy potty mouth and unfortunate abilities. Consistency I found myself in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Luka

As a young boy, Luka joined his father Antonio to investigate a mysterious sealed coffin; Incidentally, that’s where the dozing Bayonetta resides. After she regained consciousness, Antonio was attacked and killed by an unseen force, leading Luka to believe Bayonetta was the culprit. Since then, Luka has harbored a fierce hatred for Bayonetta and used his journalistic skills to hunt her down.

After several encounters with Bayonetta, Luka soon learns that it was the Angel of Paradiso who killed his father. He then works to aid Bayonetta throughout the first and second games, using his skills to gain vital knowledge that will help our favorite Umbra Witch find the what she is looking for.

Despite his dark background, Luka remains a confident and charismatic character, often attempting to flirt with women in both games. Despite this, he can often be clumsy, though always maintaining a deep sense of duty throughout.

Rodin

A key ally in the events of the first two games, Rodin is the owner of Hell’s Gate, a bar that lights up like a demonic weapons trading establishment. He was once an Angel before being exiled to Inferno, eventually entering the human realm and triggering the Gates of Hell.

As an arms dealer, Rodin’s role in the game is to provide Bayonetta with new items, weapons, and abilities in exchange for Halos. He gives Bayonetta vital information to save Jeanne’s soul in the second game before moving on to Luka to promote Hell’s Gate in the late game.

Rodin is often portrayed as aloof, preferring to sit on the sidelines and watch Bayonetta put its products to good use. However, he is a powerful entity and ally, and easily destroys enemies if the need arises.

Balder

Balder

Balder is perhaps the most complex character in the Bayonetta series, being both an antagonist and an ally in key events. Following the events of the Clan Wars, he is transported into the future 500 years after Rosa’s death, encountering Bayonetta during the events of the second game.

After many battles with Bayonetta, the two forged an armistice to defeat Aesir, the God of Chaos and the former Keeper of the Eyes of the World. After successfully defeating Aesir, Balder imprisons the soul of the latter to prevent the god from returning again. He acknowledges Bayonetta as his daughter before returning to the past.

After absorbing Aesir’s soul, Balder became corrupted and followed the Witch Hunts. Years later, he hires Antonio Redgrave (Luka’s father) to help uncover Bayonetta’s coffin. Soon after, he brainwashes Jeanne, starting the events of the first game. After his final defeat against Bayonetta and Jeanne, Balder found himself free from Aesir’s grasp and died in peace, taking the God of Chaos with him.

Loki

Introduced during the events of Bayonetta 2, Loki is a superman who acts as the good personality of Aesir, the God of Chaos. When Aesir created the Eyes of the World, his personality split in two, creating Loki and his evil counterpart, Loptr. To this day, Loki assists Bayonetta in locating Jeanne’s soul, but is constantly pursued by young Balder and Loptr.

Loptr eventually captures Loki and absorbs his ‘Power of Sovereignty’, gaining both Left and Right Eye and becoming Aesir again. However, Loki manages to use an alternate power to destroy the two Eyes, weakening Aesir and allowing Bayonetta and Balder to defeat him.

With the world seemingly in balance, Loki leaves, stating that he needs to rest and is likely to return at some point in the future.

Aesir

Aesir is known as the God of Chaos and is the main antagonist of Bayonetta 2. He awakens when one of his two separate personalities, Loptr, gains two Eyes of the World along with Power. Loki’s Sovereignty, Returning Yourself Completely.

After being defeated, Aesir’s soul attempts to escape, but is absorbed by a young Balder. Traveling back in time to the time of his wife Rosa’s death, Balder was corrupted by Aesir’s spirit, thus leading to the events of the first Bayonetta game. As such, Aesir can be considered the main antagonist of the entire Bayonetta series to date.

Bayonetta 3 new characters

Viola

So far not much is known about Viola, which is good, because that would spoil all the fun. What we do know, however, is that she is an Umbra Witch trained from another reality. When Bayonetta 3’s new nemesis – the Homunculi – launches an assault on Viola’s world, battling alternate versions of Bayonetta and Jeanne, Viola escapes and ends up in an alternate reality.

In the “real world”, Bayonetta and her allies are being attacked by the same Homunculi force, before Viola arrives to assist and warn of their enemy’s threat. She will serve as a main playable character in Bayonetta 3, using swords and throwing knives as her primary weapons.

Cheshire

Cheshire

Cheshire is Viola’s only demonic companion from the world of Inferno, taking the form of a rather chubby cat resembling the Cheshire Cat in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Given that Viola is still in training, it’s possible that she only allows one demon companion at the moment, while Bayonetta can summon multiple people.

When Cheshire appears during play, he cannot be directly controlled. Instead, he will attack at will, rendering Viola defenseless, as its existence is directly tied to Viola’s sword.
