As a result, ICICI Bank warned its customers about potential frauds in a tweet, “Beware of scammers trying to convince you to share your UPI PIN over the phone. Stay safe, practice #SafeBanking. ICICI also shared an email while alerting its customers to a new type of fraud that is growing in popularity.

“We have received many genuine requests for money during these difficult times, so a request from a known acquaintance would not feel over the norm,” ICICI said in an email. ICICI said in an email. According to the Bank, some scammers are increasingly using customers’ WhatsApp or Facebook accounts to send messages to their contacts asking for money. Since the request is coming from a known source, some contacts are actually transferring the required amount. “In such cases, exercise caution and always confirm. If your WhatsApp or Facebook account is hacked in any way, please notify the authorities,” ICICI warned customers. Tips to stay safe and secure with mobile banking

  • Do not track any URL in the message that you are not sure about.
  • If you must share your mobile device with anyone else, make sure to clear your browsing history, cache, temporary files, and block your mobile banking app.
  • Only download apps from official app stores such as Apple App Store, Google Play Store, etc.
  • Never reveal personal information or online banking credentials via e-mail or text message as they can be used for identity theft.
  • Sign out of the app or online mobile banking as soon as you complete your transactions. Also make sure you close that window. Always verify app permissions and grant only those with relevant context for the app’s purposes.
  • Avoid using unsecured, unknown Wi-Fi networks.
  • In case you experience any form of bank fraud, report it to your bank immediately.
