Australia’s sales leaders by segment, one month left in 2022


Australia sells new cars 2.3% increase in 2022with five consecutive months of growth suggesting the ongoing shortage is easing.

With one month left in the calendar year, here we look at the top vehicles in Australia’s most popular vehicle segments.

We do not select all vehicle segments here, only the top eight vehicle segments, which account for 85% of the total market.

light car

Total light car sales have fallen 3.5% this year, while January-November sales were 41,148 units or 4.1% market share.

  3. Mazda2 – 4698, up 18.7%

Overall small SUV sales are down 2.0% this year, while January-November sales totaled 130,861 units or a 13.2% market share.

  3. Mitsubishi ASX – 11,976, down 12.7%
  4. Hyundai Kona – 11,082, down 8.9%
  5. Kia Seltos – 8198, up 0.6%

Midsize SUV

Overall mid-range sales are up 19.6% this year, while January-November sales of 197,342 units equates to a 19.9% ​​share of the overall market – making it the largest segment in terms of sales and market share.

  1. TOYOTA RAV4 – 32,652, down 0.3%
  2. Mazda CX-5 – 24,425, up 11.4%
  3. Mitsubishi Outlander – 17,494, up 32.2%
  4. Kia Sportage – 17,341, up 143.8%
  5. Hyundai Tucson – 16,227, up 23.4%

Large SUV

Overall large SUV sales are up 4.1% this year, while January-November sales totaled 129,239 units or 13% market share.

  1. Toyota Prado – 20,132, up 5.4%
  2. Toyota Kluger – 11,786, up 36.2%
  3. Isuzu MU-X – 10,043, up 2.1%
  4. Ford Everest – 9388, up 21.5%
  5. Deserted Subaru – 8937, down 7.6%

Total sales of the Ute 4×4 are up 2.7% this year, while January-November sales are 179,866 units or an 18.1% market share.
