Australian company powers Mack Trucks’ first midsize electric vehicle

SEA-Drive says its 120a and 120b systems have peak power from 125kW to 250kW (80-200kW continuous) and peak torque between 1500Nm and 3500Nm (800Nm-1852Nm continuous).

In MD Electric, maximum power is 194kW and torque is 2508Nm.

The electrical system includes not only the electric motors but also the built-in charger.

The 4×2 MD ​​electric truck will use a 150kWh or 240kWh nickel-cobalt oxide battery and can be charged via an AC or DC charger. They also feature regenerative braking.

The AC charging speed is 19.2kW and the DC charging speed is 80kW. Connected to a DC charger, it will take 100 minutes to charge with two batteries and 160 minutes to charge with three batteries.

The claimed maximum range is 225 km with two batteries or 370 km with three batteries.

The Class 6 model has a gross vehicle weight (GVWR) of 11.79 tons and the Class 7 model has a GVWR of 14.97 tons. Maximum payload is 8.8 tons.

Mack notes that the MD6 does not require a commercial driver’s license in the United States to operate non-hazardous payloads.

They will be manufactured in Roanoke Valley, Virginia.

The MD Electric truck won’t be the first electric Mack, with the LR Electric already back in production in December 2021.
