Atomos Ninja V/V+ Update Brings ProRes RAW Recording Over HDMI From Canon EOS R5 C
Atomos has revealed a new firmware update for Ninja V + monitor/recorder that allows recording up to 8K ProRes RAW (full frame) from the new Canon EOS R5 COLOR. While older Ninja DRAW Models that aren’t capable of 8K shooting, the new AtomOS 10.73 update adds the ability to record up to 6K ProRes RAW from the Canon EOS R5 C in Super 35mm crop mode.
Last summer, Atomos made it possible to shoot RAW 8K ProRes with Ninja V+ from EOS R5, which prevented the triggering of that camera’s notoriously excessive thermal clipping. The higher-end EOS R5 C boasts a fan to keep things from getting too hot, allowing the camera to record for an unlimited amount of time in all modes up to 8K/60p — so the monitor/machine Atomos recording is more of a luxury than a necessity.
