At least nine people were shot in Philadelphia on Saturday night, leaving two in critical condition, police said.
Multiple shooters left a vehicle in the Kensington area of Pennsylvania and began opening fire, firing about 40 rounds, Philadelphia First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford told a televised news conference.
The injured are in hospital, seven of them in stable condition, he said.
The shooter has yet to be identified, Stanford said, who turned around and left, Stanford said, adding that police are investigating.
The bloodshed follows a series of school shootings in the US that have left dozens dead and injured this year alone, adding to the long-running US debate over gun control. One of the deadliest occurred in May when a gunman killed 19 children and two adults in Uvalde, Texas.
