Good price or no dice 1987 Nissan Sentra Sport Coupe

A pending move is believed to be the driving factor for selling Good price or no dice Sentra coupe. See if its price prompts potential buyers to take action.

There used to be a common adage in the automotive world that said there was no substitute for cubic inches. Of course, that was before we discovered a lot of replacements, such as turbos, extra camshafts, and the like. There’s still a lot to like about a car with a big displacement engine and not just yesterday 1974 Jensen intercept there was a massive 440 V8 under its bonnet, but it powered the monster factory via a cool intake with three two-barrel carbs. That’s just cherry on top of what overall appears to be a well presented if imperfect car, and that made 74% of you win the Nice Price with a claim of $29,900.

A requirement of any large displacement vehicle owner is to own a skill known on the street as a gas pump whisperer. It’s someone who knows exactly when gas prices can drop and then strikes, pumping like there’s no tomorrow before prices rise again. It’s a very specialized ability needed when driving a vehicle that has a short range or worse.

Or, you could just buy a car with a range and call it a day.

Having a gas-sipper doesn’t mean having to drive around in a dull or uninteresting car. In fact, there are plenty of older cars on the market these days that not only go easy on the gas but feature flamboyant styling that the automakers of today tend to eschew. This means you can have your funk and still not go broke at the pump.

Admittedly, finding a car that meets these criteria but is also in decent shape can be a challenge. Fortunately, there are a few examples out there, many having been owned by older folk who have treated them well and used them sparingly.

That seems to be the case with this 1987 Nissan Sentra Sport Coupewhich the seller said was purchased from the original owner, who was described as “an elderly woman who drives infrequently.”

Now, while it’s red like the Dodge supercar depicted in Jan & Dean ditty, The Little Old Lady (from Pasadena), This Sentra will not win any random draw. Not with stock SOHC 1.6-liter four-cylinder 70 hp powering the tired front wheels through a standard five-speed manual transmission. However, it will get decent fuel economy on regular gas and will look rather dull in doing so thanks to its delightful coupe hatchback body.

The seller describes the car’s condition as “good” in the ad, but that seems to spoil it with lackluster compliments based on the photos. Those cars show off nice bodywork with a shiny finish and only a few noticeable metallic lines underneath.

There’s also some fading and chipping on the rear bumper and window trim, which isn’t surprising given the car’s age. Coincidentally, that window trim surrounds a glass hatch with a large intricate curve in the back, just like on yesterday’s Jensen! Beneath all of that, factory Sentra sports four-lug alloys, all of which maintain their Nissan-branded center caps.

The cabin on this 71,000-mile Sentra also seems to hold up, although there are two aspects that immediately pop up in the photos. The first was the worst-fit floor mat ever to lamely embellish a dash. It’s hideous. The other is the front bucket seats that appear to be upholstered in blue fabric while the rest of the interior is gray and black. Now that could just be a trick of the light, or it could indicate that the seat was replaced at some point. Either way, they look very comfortable. A glass sunroof lets in plenty of light into the cabin, though there doesn’t seem to be any additional fading on the fabrics because of all that extra light.

There is no word on the condition of the mechanics of the car and to be honest, given the age of the car and no indication of a recent belt change, it could have been a schedule entry. smart for the next owner. The title is clear and the seller claims not to sell Sentra but is faced with Sophie’s Choice-dillema style forcing them to choose which of the two cars to take with them on the move. Apparently Sentra lost the coin.

To exercise this abandoned Sentra, the seller asks for $6,900. And, while the seller calls the car’s condition “good,” it’s unlikely anyone will be able to find many others in this beautiful shape. However, is it $6,900 or not?

What do you think? SWill this Sport Coupe be sold for such a high price? Or, for many dollars, this Sentra doesn’t make much sense?

You decide!
