Assistant coach of India U-17 women’s soccer team fired for ‘sexual misconduct’

Alex Ambrose, the assistant coach of the India U-17 women’s soccer team was fired on Sunday following allegations of sexual misconduct against him. The decision was announced on Sunday by Dr SY Quraishi on social media. He is a member of the Supreme Court Appointed Governance Committee (CoA) who was appointed to run the All India Football Federation (AIFF) in the apex court’s May 18 ruling and Praful Patel’s executive committee has been removed to remain in office after its term expires in December 2020.

“Alex Ambrose, Asstt head coach of the under-17 women’s team has been fired for sexual misconduct. Further action is being taken,” Quraishi tweeted.

The Indian Football Federation (AIFF) on Thursday suspended an ‘individual’ after the women’s U17 team accused him of misconduct.

Per the initial action, the Federation has temporarily suspended the individual pending further investigation. AIFF has asked the individual involved to stop all contact with the group, return to India immediately and be present in person for further investigation upon his arrival.

AIFF in a statement said, “A case of misconduct has been reported with the U17 women’s team currently on tour to Europe. AIFF follows a zero-tolerance policy for undisciplined behaviour. .”

The team participated in the 6th Torneo Women’s Soccer Tournament in Italy from 22 to 26 June, where they lost to Italy and Chile.

India U-17 women’s team lost 0-7 to Italy at Grandisco D’lsonzo in Women’s Football League. Then in the match against Chile, the Indian women lost with a score of 1-3.
