Wondering if dogs are allowed in the Bass Pro Store? We’re happy to say yes, unless your community has an ordinance prohibiting it! In fact, Bass Pro Shops® is one of my favorite post-workout stops when Barli attends nursing home therapy classes. He loves walking around the big stores and I love checking out the outdoor gear.
In this article, we’ll look at a special celebration event that welcomes dogs, a Bass Pro Shops dog feature that we haven’t seen in other stores, and whether your dog should visit a Bass Pro store near you or not.
Visit Bass Pro stores with your dog
Founded in 1972 in Missouri by angler Johnny Morris as an eight-square-foot bait shop in the back of his father’s liquor store, Bass Pro Shops (and now Cabela’s store, has joined). Bass Pro family several years ago) with 200 stores across North America.
These spacious stores are a good choice for dog shopping when you need outdoor supplies, dog walking shoes, and more.
Your dog will need to be on a leash, leash, or walk when shopping at the Bass Pro Store.
If your local Bass Pro has a restaurant, your dog will not be allowed in that area of the store unless your dog is a service dog.
TIP: If you’re traveling alone with your dog, this national chain is also an address we often refer to as a toilet stop for you. Like stopping at a dog-friendly pet supply store for a restroom break, you can bring your dog indoors with you to the toilet – just remember to buy a little something on Way out to support the store and keep them dog friendly!

As we always mention, the store manager has discretion and local regulations may be in effect. So as we suggest (repeatedly), check Bass Pro Shops locator and always call first!
Special event for dog-friendly holidays
November and December mark Bass Pro Shops: Santa’s Wonderland’s annual holiday event.
This event features free photos with Santa along with additional photos for purchase but You need to make a reservation in advance. Test Santa’s Workshop page for dates, specifics on which stores will include dogs at the holiday event, and their reservations.
The bassinet at the Bass Pro Store
Bass Pro also offers an option we haven’t seen in other stores: a crib. To encourage tourists never leaving their dogs in the car, an often deadly option, Bass Pro has a kennel for customers to use.
The website notes, “some of our retail stores have a limited number of indoor/outdoor cots available for customer use. We can set up a kennel and you can leave your pet there while you shop. Please check with one of our retail apparel suppliers for availability. “

Take the dog to the Bass Pro store
The key to having a good time shopping with your dog – and making sure dog friendly shop REMAIN is dog-friendly – taking a few extra steps before and during your shopping tour.
Before your trip
- Pack a leash no longer than 6 feet. This will help keep your dog from getting tangled up on display and minimize tripping risks for other shoppers. You’ll want your dog to be by your side throughout the shopping process.
- Leave a retractable leash at home. Retractable leashes can really pose a tripping hazard in stores (not to mention the potential to flip entire clothes racks and more!)
- Quick call to your local store. Call the store quickly to confirm that your dog can accompany you when shopping just to be safe.
- Pack a cleaning kit. Along with the poop bag, pack some tissues and hand sanitizer. You never know.
During your trip
- Stop the potty before entering the store. Even if your dog pees before he leaves the house, take a few minutes to visit the trees in the parking lot.
- Keep your dog close. For the safety of both your dog and other shoppers, keep your dog by your side when shopping. Not everyone likes dogs or wants to be around your dog (it’s hard to believe, right?!)
- Process any accident immediately. If your dog is in an accident, pick it up immediately. Especially if you have a male dog that loves to mark, pay special attention. Increase your walking speed when passing those people or distract your dog with a treat.
- Don’t miss the aquarium! Every Bass Pro we’ve visited has huge aquarium setups with local fish; Our dogs love to watch the action!
Should You Take Your Dog to Bass Pro Stores?
Okay, we’ve determined that most Bass Pro stores will allow dogs in the store – but SHOULD you take your dog shopping with you?
Well, the answer depends on your dog.
On a dog-friendly store scale, I like to put Bass Pro Shops on the quieter side when it comes to noise and the fear factor for dogs. It’s not as noisy as home repair shops like Lowe’s. It’s not as small or quiet as home decor stores like Tuesday morning but generally pretty quiet for a shop of its size.
If you’re not sure how well your dog will do in the store, visit in time low point time – and when you don’t have to focus all your attention on the shopping task at hand. I like to drink Barli on weekdays in the middle of the day.
And, as always, if your dog shows any form of aggression — with people or other dogs — a dog-friendly store isn’t for your dog.
Can a service dog come to a Bass Pro store?
Yes, a trained service dog needed to assist you is allowed into any store in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):
Service animals are defined as dogs that are specifically trained to do work or perform duties for people with disabilities. Examples of such work or duties include instructing the blind, warning the deaf, towing a wheelchair, warning and protecting a person having a seizure, reminding a mentally ill person take medication as prescribed, calm a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or perform other tasks. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The job or task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person’s disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.

If your dog is not a trained service dog, do not try to misrepresent your dog as a service dog. Depending on where you live, misrepresent your dog as a service dog may be fined up to $1000.
