American Airlines said on Thursday it would resume selling alcoholic beverages on short-haul domestic and international flights next month, a plan that was delayed nearly a year ago because of a spike in alcohol consumption. unruly passenger and attacks on crew members.

Airlines stopped selling alcohol and halted food and service sales in March 2020, as the pandemic broke out and travel demand plummeted. Service providers have been steadily delivering many of those services over the past year as travelers return series.

American is the last major U.S. carrier to bring in sales of beer, wine, and spirits, which it will sell in its domestic passenger car cabins starting April 18, the date of restriction. The current federal mask expires. It is unclear if the Biden administration will expand or end the request. Southwest Airlines restarted alcohol sales last month.

Flight attendant unions say drinking and a dispute over face masks contributed to the unruly in-flight behavior.

Sales will be available on US flights longer than 250 miles. Alcohol is free on US long-haul international flights and in first class, just like on other major airlines.

American and Southwest in May canceled plans to start selling alcohol again after a number of passengers disrupted and attacked the crew, including a Southwest tourist who punched a flight attendant.

A US spokesperson told CNBC there is no price increase from pre-pandemic. Spirits like Aviation Gin, rum, vodka and newly launched whiskey will be $9. Wine servings are also $9. Beers are $8.

Americans are also bringing back in-flight food, which will begin with flights of more than 1,500 miles, about three and a half hours, starting with chips and almonds. The airline said it will start offering non-touch ordering by the end of the year.

Last month, Americans and Delta Airlines announced the return of hot meals for first class on many domestic flights.
