America Ferrera reveals the secret to radiant skin

And I love that you said “light skin” because your skin is absolutely radiant in the new campaign! It looks very fresh, authentic and natural. Do you have a secret weapon for glowing skin that you can share with us?

I think a lot of that has to do with cleansers and moisturizers because some cleansers can make you dry, you know? Some cleaners feel like they’re working deep (and they are) but don’t necessarily leave you feeling moist. So I don’t think it’s a good idea to strip everything. And I don’t like the feeling of thick moisturizer or sunscreen that makes me feel like if you sweat a little you’ll have a film all over your face! I just love things that really allow my skin to breathe. Personally – now having to look at myself in camera for over 20 years – I think anything that doesn’t let my skin breathe really makes me look older and drier. So I think, when it comes to glowing skin, less is more.

And shining isn’t always bad. I think we’ve looked at gloss as a bad thing and immediately said, “Oh my god, put some powder on,” but I think too much powder will make your skin look dull sometimes. color. So foundation and moisturizer that helps skin breathe is key. And of course, drink lots of water! Drinking lots of water will make a difference. And with the sweat, I feel like my skin looks better when I exercise in the morning. My skin looks radiant and amazing the rest of the day. I bet that has to do with blood circulation only. I’m not sure if that’s necessarily a trick, but it works. And I have another secretAcupuncture facials.

I’m just talking to someone about those, so I’d love to hear about your experience!

I started acupuncture when I was pregnant because you have all the fun, exciting things happening to your body when you’re pregnant. [Laughs] I feel an amazing, huge difference in the circulation and the opening of tight parts of my body. My acupuncturist was doing things around my head to open things up, and I said, “Oh, that feels like a face,” and she said, “I can give you a face!” So she gave me full face acupuncture. Obviously, it accumulates, so the more you do, the better the benefits. It’s all about circulation and bringing that fresh blood to the surface. I’ve only done it a few times, and there’s definitely a new light. So maybe it’s a secret weapon to draw for special occasions.

I will definitely have to try that for myself! And what would you say is the best skin care advice you’ve ever received?

Apply sunscreen every day! I am a freckled person. I love my freckles and don’t try to hide them, but I feel like that could turn black. It’s been hard to find that balance because I want to tan in the summer, but I don’t want to spoil my skin. I think a good sunscreen is very important. Another great skin care tip I get is to always do with your neck what you do with your face.

That’s all great advice and contributes to your glowing skin, I’m sure! What made you say yes to your debut campaign as a Covergirl? What drew you in particular to the new Clean Fresh skincare line?

I mean, Covergirl is just Iconic. We all know Covergirl and can conjure up images of what a Covergirl is and looks like. That fresh, natural beauty. What really appealed to me about being an ambassador for Covergirl is that I think it really says something that they care about someone like me to be the face of their brand. Growing up, I never saw anyone like me in the dominant conversation about mainstream beauty. Now that I’m in my 30s, I’m a mother of two, I know myself better than ever and I feel more beautiful than ever. I feel stronger, more confident and like I know myself better than ever.

I believe that is where beauty comes from. It shine from within. Yes, I was younger. Yes, I have had more marks of youth and beauty than I have in years past, but I think as a woman who knows herself and who she is. feel beautiful, I’m more interested in talking about the source of beauty — about how beauty can be and feel empowered.

Of all my conversations with the Covergirl team about partnerships, that’s what they’re all about. They want to talk to me. It’s not about me becoming something I’m not, but for a lot of young women it can be when trying to live up to key beauty expectations. A lot of the time, what does it feel like, How do I change myself? How do I fit the box, mold or standard? And it’s not. It’s about capturing what’s unique about you. I think the conversation around beauty, fashion, and self-expression is moving in a direction that makes us unique. There is beauty of age. Youth has beauty. There is beauty in all skin colors and gender expressions.

I’m glad that an iconic brand like Covergirl is ready to really expand on that story and join that conversation about who still hasn’t been included in our story of what’s beautiful. And that includes what we see in our culture and what we see in our world reflected in us. It is especially important when we are young and shaping our identities. It teaches us what to believe about ourselves. It teaches us whether we belong or not, whether we are visible or invisible. So my deepest hope is that, as a Covergirl ambassador, I can bring to many people a new image of what it means to be beautiful and what it means to be beautiful.
