After seven years and several failed attempts to successfully launch a game of their own, Amazon Game Studios is perhaps cautiously turning to other developers for their next goal. Today they announced the release date of February 11 for Lost beer keg, the Diablo-y action RPG first released in Korea by Smilegate in 2019, Amazon will release in Europe and America. Can it be okay? It will be free to play anyway. Check out the new trailer from The Game Awards below.
Lost Ark has been out for a few years in some parts of the world, but Amazon will run it in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Oceania.
I’ve heard bad things about Lost Ark’s monetization, but Amazon insists in an October blog post that they have “worked with Smilegate RPG to update the business model to better align with Western standards and player expectations.” No more monthly pet rentals, for starters, and less “pay for mechanical advantage” from optional premium service. When our Ed play a few hours of the preview version earlier this year, he didn’t see much that made it stand out.
“However, what I played in Lost Ark was undeniably enjoyable, with strong combat potential in a wonderfully presented world,” he admitted. “Those early hours are packed with traditional MMOs, though, and it’s clear the game is going to be a big old fashioned for those who want to stick with it. It’s an MMO that is likely to pay dividends. instant news for such players, but whether it will hold your interest long enough to get there is another matter entirely.”
We’ll all get to see Lost Ark launch for free via Steam on 11 Feb 2022. They sold ‘Founders Pack’ with three days early access, one month of that premium service and some referral bits.
