All the Easter Eggs in Taylor Swift’s ‘All Too Well’ short film

Taylor Swift has officially debuted Red (Taylor’s version), a re-record of her 2012 album, complete with previously unheard extras — including a crucial 10-minute version of the fan-favorite “All Too Well “. Swift has teased for years that there was an original, longer version of the song and now with Red (Taylor’s version), she’s not only giving it to her fans, she’s also created a cinematic universe around it.

At 7pm EST, Swift premiered her new short film titled All too good: Short film, starring Dylan O’Brien, Sadie Sink, and Swift, who also wrote and directed the film. Fans have thoroughly dissected the cast, particularly noticing that the age difference between Sink and O’Brien resembles that of Swift and actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who is rumored to be about the song. For reference, Sink was 19 years old and O’Brien was 30, while Swift and Gyllenhaal were 20 and 29 years old when they started dating, respectively.

And like any piece of content Swift brings into the world, there are Easter eggs sprinkled throughout the nearly 15-minute film. Fast even said Jimmy Fallon on Tonight’s show, “It’s funny how there are so many [the short film]. Let’s dissect below:

Scarf

The Scarf™ has its own folklore in the Taylor Swift fandom. (See what I did there?) According to the song, Swift leaves the towel at her ex-sister’s house, which many assume means Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jake’s real-life older sister. Maggie Gyllenhaal even once asked about an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen if she still has the scarf, she replies, “You know, I never understood why people ask me about this scarf… I’m very ignorant about scarves. It is completely possible. I don’t know.” In the film’s fictional world, the ex shows up at a reading that Swift gives 13 years later, wearing a scarf.

Chocolate Cookies

If there’s one thing we know about pop star Taylor Swift, it’s that the woman loves to bake. While she 1989 Secret Sessions, when she invited fans over to her house to play them the album before it was released, she bakes everyone chocolate cookies eat.

Plus, another fun fact about this scene: Sink’s father is played by Shawn Levy, an executive producer and director for Strange things, the show in which Sink starred.

O’Brien’s Jake Gyllenhaal-Inspired Wardrobe

For the moment, let’s forget the fact that O’Brien has an identical resemblance to Gyllenhaal and move on to the very special wardrobe he wears throughout the film. O’Brien is seen sporting plaid shirts (a nod to the lyrics, “After the plaid shirt day and night when you make me your own”) and hats wool, both staples of Gyllenhaal’s wardrobe.

Sink’s Taylor Swift-Inspired Wardrobe

Similarly, Sink created a popular Swift look: a black turtleneck and red lipstick. Swift seems to have even teased this outfit in Her first TikTok, where she wears a black turtleneck and red lipstick while announcing about Red (Taylor’s version) vinyl.

Reference “We’ll Never Get Back Together”

While this part of the movie is silent, we see Sink crying in bed after she appears to have gotten away from the phone. This could be a reference to the line in “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (also rumored to be about Gyllenhaal) where Swift sings: “So he called me and he said, ‘I still love you. you’ / And I’m like, I’m just, I mean this is tiring, you know? / Like we’ll never get back together, like, ever”?

Actor Jake Lyon

In the short, it’s revealed that Swift will play the older Sadie, 13 years later. Who else is playing O’Brien? According to the movie’s credits – you never actually see his face – it’s an actor named Jake Lyon, which is honestly just a Swift power move.

An eagle-eyed fan pointed out on Twitter that Swift seems to have teased Everything is so good The book is shown in the short film in a TikTok Swift made about fall back in October. In TikTok, Swift writes what we now know as the lyrics from “It’s All Too Good (10 Minute Version)” in the back of what looks like All Too Well book, which she is also currently sold as merchandise.

13 years later

This is obvious. Swift loves the number 13, so if she’s going to spend some time on her short film, it will of course be 13 years in the future.

Red-haired Swift

This is not an easter egg and more of a comment that shows Swift loves rocking red hair. She does the same in music video for the song “Babe”, which Sugarland originally recorded with Swift. (Swift later recorded it for Red (Taylor’s version).) She also has red hair in music video for “Bad Blood” out of album 1989. It could be a sign that she will re-record 1989 Next? Only time will tell.

Back when the short film trailer was released, fans quickly recognized the car featured in the clip as a 1989 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, a nod to the Grammy-winning album. by Swift 1989.

Crossword Puzzles

It is noted that O’Brien and Sink spend a scene lounging in bed and laughing because the crossword certainly looks like a crossword puzzle. Sound familiar? One fan noted that it’s likely related to the lyrics from “Red” where Swift sings, “Fighting him is like trying to solve a crossword and realizing there’s no right answer.”

“The Moment I Knew” Happened

Lyrics from Red the song “The Moment I Knew” also seems to come to life with Sink hanging around at the party wearing red lipstick. Everyone has a blast and she doesn’t, or, “And it’s like slow motion / Standing there in my party dress / Wearing red lipstick / No one to impress / And all of them smiling / As I looked around the room / But one thing was missing / And that was the moment I knew.”

Similar to “White Horse”

Taylor Swift’s song “White Horse” was released in 2008 on her album Not fear. It was a couple of years ago when she and Gyllenhaal got together, but some think she calls back that video, which messes up the timeline a bit. Maybe this is just what heartbreak looks like:

Red box

Swift fan @sammytheswiftie pointed out on Twitter that a bright red gift Swift featured on TikTok 21 days before the album’s release appeared behind Sink’s shoulder in one scene:

Wear his clothes

In her Say song “Last Kiss”, Swift sings, “But now I’m going / Sitting on the floor wearing your clothes / All I know is I don’t know / How to be the thing you remember.”

In a shot at the beginning of the film, O’Brien is wearing a plaid T-shirt that Sink wears at the end, while mourning their relationship.

Birthday cake

Just like this scene in the short, there’s another Swift music video featuring birthday content. The image of Sink blowing out her “21st birthday” candles at a party where her boyfriend appeared doesn’t look like a scene from “Lover”, except in the video where Swift plays herself, with a loving boyfriend on the side. . (Some fans think this scene might also be related to “The Moment I Knew,” where Swift sings, “You should have been there / Should have burst in the door / With that” Honey, I’m in here “smile”)
