Jones and his owned entities were found liable on Monday defaulting in a defamation case against them.
Judge Barbara Bellis of the Connecticut Supreme Court cited the defendants’ “intentional non-compliance” with the discovery process as the core reason behind her ruling. “All defendants failed to fully and fairly comply with their discovery obligations,” Bellis said at the virtual hearing.
Judge Bellis said she adjourned for Monday’s punitive hearing “in the hope that these matters will be corrected” by the Jones defendants.
“While the families are grateful for the Court’s decision, they remain focused on uncovering the truth. As the Court noted, Alex Jones and his companies knowingly concealed evidence of the relationship. relationship between what they publish and how they make money,” said Chris Mattei of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder, representing the plaintiffs. “Mr. Jones was given every opportunity to comply, but instead, when he chose to withhold the evidence for more than two years, the Court was left with no choice but to rule as it is today. A spokesperson for Alex Jones did not immediately respond to CNN Business’s request for comment.
Bellis said the case will now proceed to trial and compensation for the defendants. A state conference is scheduled for Wednesday.
