Alec Baldwin: ‘I didn’t pull the trigger’ on the gun on the set of ‘Rust’

Baldwin said in an excerpt released Wednesday from the live interview – his first since the October shooting.

When asked why he pointed a gun at Hutchins and pulled the trigger when that wasn’t in the script, Baldwin said: “I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger, never.”

Baldwin also said he did not know how a real bullet got into the Colt .45 pistol he used on the scene. “Someone put a live bullet in the gun, a bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property,” he said.

An emotional Baldwin was clearly holding back tears as he talked about Hutchins.

“She is someone who is loved by all who work with her, loved by all who work with her – and admired,” Baldwin said, adding, “that just seems like a no-brainer. unreal to me”.

When asked by George Stephanopoulos if the shooting was the worst thing that ever happened to him, Baldwin said yes, “because I think back and I think, what can I do?”

ABC will air the interview on Thursday night.

Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza was injured in October after Baldwin was discharged a weapon In a maneuver there is what authorities Doubt is a live round.

The incident, which is still under investigation, has renewed calls for better safety practices on set regarding the use of firearms.

Baldwin has said he believes police officers should be on “every movie/TV that uses a gun, fake or otherwise” for firearm safety monitoring.
