How do we eliminate anthropogenic CO2 emissions? AI says “Easy – kill everyone”?

AI can’t fix climate change, but great for preparation, reporting

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Alexis Normand, Co-Founder of Carbon Accounting Software Provider Greentell SDxCentral.

WHO plays a “huge role” in managing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions from sectors such as transportation, agriculture and manufacturing. It is also a predictor of extreme weather events exacerbated by climate change, “which can serve as information about how our daily activities are impacting weather patterns.” normal weather, while also preparing us for the impact of natural disasters,” Normand said.

AI is worried

Despite its ability to “help us respond faster and take the necessary precautions to prevent climate change from continuing”, AI still carries a set of errors.

At the technology level, it can be difficult for AI programs to identify the correct data set, and they often struggle with the data. Guarddata warehouseand “remove biases that might affect the final data,” explains Normand.

As a software engineer, I love playing with AI and have used AI that I have written for several projects. But they have their limitations.

One of the most important limitations to large-scale deployment is that AIs often don’t know if their “solution” is ethically acceptable.

For example, 2018 Amazon shuts down AI recruiting, after they discovered it was showing gender bias. AI has found that companies mainly hire male IT staff, so it can be inferred that women are not suitable for IT jobs.

One would immediately recognize that the lack of female workers can have other explanations, such as a lack of female candidates.

There is no real gender-based bias in IT ability. If anything women have an advantage – they tend to pay more attention to details. The male-dominated IT shop tradition is a purely western phenomenon, we’re somehow persuading our girls not to choose an IT career. I have been to the extremely competitive Asian IT stores as a visiting consultant, where the balance is closer to 50/50; not because some stupid quota woke up, but simply because female applicants got half the jobs. All the women in such places pull their own weight.

Microsoft had a similar experience – Their AI chatbot was launched in 2016when it learns to swear and make racist remarks.

And of course, we are well aware of the shortcomings of self-driving cars, such as the car mistook a flat white obstacle as the background.

Why do humans have limits that AI doesn’t? Because evolution has given us a set of instincts designed to maximize reproductive success. Humans are born with extremely serious defects, such as an irresistible urge to kill everyone who tries to talk to them, which is rare.

AIs only have what we give them, they don’t have any concept of limits, other than what we remember to teach them, and even then they often get it wrong.

While AI has few real-world responsibilities, failures are often more amusing than horrifying – though AI car crashes can be a taste of what’s to come.

Few things amaze me more than the idea of an AI put in charge of climate policy, or even climate planning. Because there are no most basic human limitations, an AI can make harmful decisions in a subtle way that no rational human could consider.
