After Mama Goats’ rescue, two sets of twins were born at Farm Sanctuary

Last October, we rescued Sadie, Autumn, two other goats named Pete and Clarice, and three sheep (named Curt, Chaos, and George) from an abandoned situation in the Mid-Hudson area of Last October New York. More than three dozen sheep and goats were left without food, proper shelter and care in a rented property that their owners rarely inspected. The dead were left in a rotting field.

For months, the neighbors communicated with each other about the welfare of the animals. When the owner was not responsible, they asked if he would release them to someone who would. However, he refused: He bought the oldest animals for his young son and was not ready to part. But as time went on, the sheep and goats began to multiply, leaving more to compete for scarce food and care.

The hearts of the neighbors grieve for these abandoned animals and they refused to let them suffer. Led by our contact, Julieanne, they feed the sheep and goats, improve housing, arrange veterinary care and care for the newborns. Then, when the owners finally agreed to let everyone stay in the house, Julieanne’s team arranged the location as well.

Farm Sanctuary was able to book four goats with one of our members Farm Animal Adoption Network. We have also received seven animals, with plans to place them once they are at home.
