AFCON 2022 tournament format
Similar to other continental championships and World Cups, the Africa Cup of Nations begins with a group stage, followed by a knockout stage until the final.
- Group stage: January 9-20
- Round 16: January 23-26
- Quarterfinals: January 29-30

The 24 countries are divided into six groups of four countries each. At the end of the round-robin competition – with three points awarded for a win, one for a draw and no loss – the top two teams in each group based on points (and a draw, if necessary). ) advance to the knockout round.
