Ed: I don’t like scary games. I don’t like being scared. Wait, wait a minute, I do? Before I visited the Resident Evil Village, I believed that myself was not a horror to me. I mean, I saw the movie Woman In Black starring Harry Potter and almost had a heart attack. But stepping into a rich manor house, I realized that I liked the tension. That prolonged glute squeeze. Though I’d say I prefer Village’s horror franchise. Gripping too much is not good.

Resident Evil Village sees you step into the hands of Ethan Winters, an unintentionally hilarious guy who just had a really hard time going up against a frenzied family in Resident Evil 7. After speaking against support, he’s finally happy, stable, and his hands look soft. That is, until things happens and he wakes up in a snowy village full of snarling werewolves. This man really can’t rest.

But it does entertain well when Ethan stumbles into the warm but equally terrifying embrace of a mansion. It’s not long before you meet its owner, Lady Dimitrescu, who is unhappy that you’re trampling all her expensive rugs. What happens next is solving puzzles and killing monsters, sandwiched by frantic runaways where Lady D is really just slowly walking into you – but it’s terrifying as a result.

After you break free from Dimitrescu’s clutches, the game opens. The village becomes a central space that grows as you explore. One that is filled with hidden treasures and secret locked doors. The werewolf and the goldfish. Frightened jumps and rustling bushes. Suddenly, many roads lead to exotic new locations, each with its own theme.

One of them was a doll’s house that made me whimper in a corner. In this installment Resident Evil Village turns into a festival of psychological terror that plays with you for a few hours and I think Katharine best summarizes it as a PT and Resi’s monstrous child 7Lucas’s lab, where the insane Lucas hangs out. I still find it a bit jarring to go from the slow-paced horror, to the intense psychological content, to the action. However, in hindsight, it was exactly what I needed. A whole game of fire between dollhouses would be unbelievable, but I didn’t expect I would survive. Instead, the game strikes a great balance between horror and action. The whole time it knew it had to cater to fans as well as newcomers, and this self-awareness extended to the seriousness of itself. The way you pick up objects and the way the music plays. Battle boss. Collectibles. Just the mild fun of it all. It’s not afraid of just being a good video game.

Speaking as someone who never thought they’d pass such a thing, Resident Evil Village is easily one of the best games I’ve played this year. I was introduced to a series and a story that I wanted to explore further. And most of all, I lived to tell the story.

Let’s come: I’m sure Resident Evil Village will come down as a modern horror classic. Ethan Winters collects a series of towbars as he explores the iconic village, but tension still permeates every room you enter. You always know that, no matter how much shotgun ammo you’ve saved, some towering wild beast can smash through walls and mess you up at any moment. Even armed to the teeth with guns, I couldn’t help crouching in the corner and pausing the game to take another nervous breath.

Resident Evil Village is filled with horror. It’s fun at making you squirm and squeal as you explore every nook and cranny. As Ed mentioned, areas like the monumental halls of Castle Dimitrescu and the dark depths below Beneviento House are all locked, loaded, and ready to frighten.

Beneath the horror, however, Resident Evil Village is a sight to behold. As I peered out at the quiet village from the castle window, I couldn’t tell if I was glued to the beautiful scenery ahead, or just trying to bask in a moment of escape from my heart-pounding dread. Even the blood-stained snow glistening in the moonlight was strangely enchanting. But, like the mystical forests that surround Dracula Castle or the lush landscapes of Midsommar’s Swedish countryside, beauty lulls you into a false sense of security.

Of course, it wasn’t all scenes of fear and screaming. You’ll have to use those guns a lot, especially when it starts to ramp up in the second half. But, as Ed gets comfortable in the chaotic action-thriller that Village has become, I find that real terror always emerges. When it happens, it’s terrifying, even more so because of the fake bravado you develop while fighting.

Sometimes you’ll find yourself kicking your ass and plowing through werewolves or half-humans. You will start to feel confident. Through the corridors, you can attack enemies at every turn. Then, as you approach the next door and dash through, nightmares jump out from the shadows and send your inflated horror ego crashing to the ground in panic, sweat, and shivers. . With that, you go back to hiding in the pause menus when convincing yourself to keep playing. Don’t worry, you’re not the only one.

Katharine: Like Ed, I’ve never really been a horror gamer, but Resident Evil Village is just the right blend of intrigue, rather than top-of-the-line scary scenes. I like a good power curve and the transition from total fear to being an unstoppable action man, shotgun shooting is what I crave and crave in a game like this, Lady D almost loves a good, full-glass game of red stuff.

The village itself is also a great location, providing some much-needed relief from the claustrophobic corridors of its main floors. Despite being ravaged by werewolves and goodness knows nothing more, I can totally consider this a town in action, with winding roads, reservoirs, factories, and local manors , and I hope the mystery of it, Upcoming DLC will take us back there for a moment before things start to fall into place. The broader, more inclusive feel of the place is something I’ve missed from more recent Resident Evil games, and gives it a creative freedom you don’t get from some unique settings. its best.
