A Review of the 7artisans Photoelectric 9mm f/5.6 Lens

At 9mm, the 7artisans Photoelectric 9mm f/5.6 offers the widest focal length available in a full frame rectilinear lens, making it an intriguing choice for landscapes, architecture, and much more. With such an extreme design and a reasonable price ($479), can it still offer the sort of performance and image quality discerning photographers demand? This excellent video review takes a look at what you can expect.

Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this great video review takes a look at the new 7artisans Photoelectric 9mm f/5.6 lens for Canon RF, Nikon Z, Sony E, and Leica L full frame mirrorless cameras. Despite its affordable price, the 9mm f/5.6 still comes with a nice range of features, including:

  • Low distortion design
  • 7.9-inch minimum focusing distance
  • De-clicked aperture ring for video work
  • Extra-low dispersion, aspherical, and high refractive index elements for reduced aberrations and increased sharpness
  • Five-blade aperture for 10-point sunstars
  • Built-in lens hood

Of course, the manual focus only design might deter some, but at 9mm and f/5.6, the depth of field is incredibly forgiving. Perhaps the greatest challenge will simply be composing a compelling image at such a wide focal length! Check out the video above for Frost’s full thoughts on the lens.
