Corals thrived in waters much warmer than today, and their growth was stunted in cooler environments.
Warnings for sale by climate alerters are typically Earth-specific 500 billion corals are seriously threatened by modern global warming.
But the science itself says corals have been and will continue to thrive during the current Warm Period – just as they did during previous warm periods.
In the space of a few pages, a study (Long et al., 2022) removed at least 4 false climate alarm stories.
Scientists have identified:
- Coral reefs “grow rapidly during warm periods” (Romans, Middle Ages), and “reefs grow slowly during cold periods” (Little Ice Age, Dark Cold Ages) ). Why? Because “warm periods favor coral growth.”
- Rapid coral reef development acceleration over the past 300 years, or since the industrial revolution began.
- Sea level was 2 meters higher than it is today ~ 4,000 years ago, and still about 1 meter higher than it is today 1,000 years ago, or during the Medieval Warm Period. Lower sea levels create “a decrease in the rate of coral reef growth”.
- The surface temperature of the South China Sea was “3 to 6°C higher than today” from about 5,000 to 4,000 years ago; Coral reefs grow rapidly in that warmth.
How much attention would an iconoclastic study like this get? Probably not. Studies that do not enhance the climate alarm narrative are often dismissed and ignored.
