The Chinese electric car startup is pursuing everything from the Tesla Model 3 to the Toyota Kluger in Australia


The Xpeng G6 SUV will be the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker’s first model to launch in Australia and the local importer hopes it will open the door to a wider product line in the near future.

TrueEV has been appointed as the local importer, distributor and retailer of Xpeng, with Tesla Model YThe -size G6 will be the first model to go on sale within a few months, both in standard and long-range variants.

While targeting Australia’s lucrative SUV market is a logical first step, TrueEV plans to launch multiple electric vehicle models over the next 18 months, meeting most of the market’s demand.

“We have the G6 available from October as standard and long-range variants, then we have the performance variant in 2025,” Mr Clarke said.

“Then we have a large SUV, the G9. It’s a great car, it’s been really well received in Europe.

“We are testing the MPV X9 model on the market [people mover]. We think that category is expanding for a high-quality, full-featured vehicle that can seat seven or more people with in-seat massage, a drop-down TV, a refrigerator and the rest. .

“Hopefully the P7 sedan will be available after that and two smaller SUVs by 2026.”

If this timeline is met and all vehicles come to fruition, Xpeng could sell six models in Australia within the next two and a half years.

The Xpeng G9 is the largest SUV in its range, measuring 4891 mm long, 1937 mm wide (without mirrors) and 1680 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2998 mm – making it slightly shorter than a sedan. SUVs. Toyota Kluger between the front and rear bumpers but with a longer wheelbase.

It offers a WLTP range of up to 576 km in RWD Long Range mode.

Xpeng currently does not sell any SUV models smaller than the G6 after it announced G3 production would end in China before the end of 2026.
