Lupul, Bratt co-host the Sovereign Awards
The 48th Annual Sovereign Awards, taking place on Thursday evening, April 13, at Universal Eventspace in Vaughan, Ontario, will be the first event of the year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jockey’s Jockey Club. Canada. Beginning with the Sovereign Awards that evening, Jockey Club of Canada will honor the legacy of our founding members throughout 2023 with numerous 50th anniversary celebrations.

Founded by one of the giants of the thoroughbred industry, Mr. EP Taylor, owner of Windfields Ranch and a breeder of greats like the Northern Dancer and Nijinsky II, Canada’s heritage is rich and accomplished. the level of excellence our predecessors achieved.”
The Jockey Club of Canada is also pleased to announce two new Ceremonial Moderators for the 2022 Sovereign Awards, Dawn Lupul and Jeff Bratt, who will take on the role previously taken by Jason Portuondo. Jason has done an excellent job as a host over the years and we are grateful to him for everything he has done, and continues to do, for the thoroughbred racing industry in Canada.
Dawn and Jeff are no strangers to working together, having previously co-hosted Woodbine’s simulcast broadcast. They both bring a lot of knowledge and respect about thoroughbred races across Canada to the Sovereign Awards and we are delighted to have them involved.
Dawn has appeared in many network TV specials over the years and even showcased her talents as an overseas race caller when invited to a race at the Racecourse. Ascot in Perth, Australia in 2020.
You’d be hard-pressed to find programming from Woodbine without Jeff’s expertise, whether it’s simulated or networked broadcasts for prestigious race days like Queen’s Plate, Woodbine Mile or Canadian International.
Winners in each of the departmental and media Sovereign Awards categories will be announced during the 48th annual Sovereign Awards ceremony on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Universal Eventspace in Vaughan, Ontario.
