When a probation officer was told that the “court-ordered ankle tracker” had been removed, he visited the person’s home and discovered dozens of dogs. live in shock and unsafe conditions.
The probation officer immediately called the local dog handler. But because the case involved excessive oblivion, they turned to the Licking County Humane Society for help.
After a brief conversation with the single civilian, the agents expected this rescue to be only a small-scale effort. But the situation in the house was much more tense than initially anticipated.
Elycia Taylor, program and communications director, said: “What we believe is about an hour or so, the seizure of about 30 dogs turned into 5 hours of us scouring the house looking for 80 dogs. and puppies in all areas of the house. at the Licking County Humane Society.
The house is not only condemned but also has no running water. Licking County Humane Society rescued eighty small-breed mixes from the central Ohio home. It was the biggest rescue in the shelter’s history. It took many hours and many trips back and forth to bring all these sweet souls to safety.
The dogs range in age from a few weeks old to several years old, with some females having given birth recently so they are still nursing puppies. All dogs need medical attention such as depilation/coating, vaccinations, deworming and dental cleaning. Plus, every dog removed is infested with fleas. Many pups develop serious skin infections because of the disastrous “hygiene problems” caused by so many animals being forced to live in close proximity to each other in such unsafe conditions.
“Today is the beginning of a LONG process for these dear souls… but also the beginning of a new life. A life that will now be filled with love, care, care and security,” Licking County Humane Society.
Since the dogs arrived at the shelter, they have done well and are adjusting to a new life. But while some dogs will be ready for adoption within the next few days, many must first recover from medical conditions such as lacerations, dental disease, and eye problems.
