7 Skills Good Photographers Have That Anyone Can Copy

If you want to improve on something, one of the best ways to do it is to find the masters of their craft and simply imitate them. But how do you know which ones to copy and which ones to ignore? Here, you’ll learn seven skills that great photographers have that you can easily add to your skill set.

Have you heard of the 10,000 hour rule? It’s a famous concept by Malcolm Gladwell, in which he says it takes 10,000 hours of intensive practice to master complex skills and materials, like playing the violin or being as good at computer programming as Bill Gates . However, there’s more to it than just doing the same thing over and over again for 10,000 hours: you also need a good teacher along the way. Why? Because the teacher will show you what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong. After all, there’s no point in continuing to do something for 10,000 hours if your technique starts to suck.

But what if you don’t have a professional teacher or master craftsman you can turn to for help? Thankfully today we have the internet to help and in this great video brought to you by Nigel Danson, he teaches us the seven skills that good photographers possess and, more importantly, any Anyone can copy. What impressed me the most was “simplify your image”. I think people often try to include so many elements in their frame that it all ends up being too busy and full of distractions. I like clean, simple images that take advantage of negative space. Watch the video and let me know what you think.
