In many ways, I feel like I’ve come a long way in learning about lighting, posing, wardrobe, and other important aspects of headshots and even though this video is geared towards newbies getting started, but all of the advice I give is good food for thought for those of us at any point in our journey as portrait and photography photographers. Portrait. Topics I covered include wardrobe, specifically the importance of having clients bring a variety of clothes to work instead of just showing up with what they’re wearing; equipment, addresses why you should never buy cheap and how very cheap cakes are actually more expensive in the long run; re-edit; and lighting, where I discuss the strange shadow patterns commonly seen in the work of beginners. I also mention the importance of being aware of the details when working with clients when it comes to hair, ties, collars, etc., and advise beginners (and all of us on the matter). that) let’s spend a lot of time photographing people in natural light, so we can understand how the light hits the face.
