5 years of fire icon hero: Good, bad and still missing
Nintendo’s mobile hit Fire icon hero will celebrate its fifth anniversary this week. It’s a great time to look back at what it’s achieved, good and bad, and what we still want to see from the game. Let’s hear your opinion too! Drop by in the comments and share your thoughts.
Good
STANDARD STRATEGY: Hero strike a good balance between traditional tactics Fire Emblem and more friendly, simpler for mobile devices. Matches are short and fit easily on phones, but they still feel tactical. This is not the easiest thing to manage. – Graham
GACHA ACTIVITIES: Fire icon hero really distill the main appeal of Fire Emblem – its character – to be the game’s most focused character: the gacha hero collector, and made it work. Later chapters also introduce some interesting wrinkles to its multiverse lore, and add intriguing original characters of its own. – Josh
DISCOVER THE CHARACTERS: I like it Fire icon hero Show people characters from games that we don’t get. Blade binding? Roy is our boy and here it is! Thracian 776? Leif is leading his army into our lives! That way, it probably also encourages players to look for details on exclusive Japanese titles. – Jenny
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: Are all additions successful? Not from afar. But you can say that the Smart System and Nintendo are at least try New stuff and that’s the leg of the game! In ways that the rest of the Nintendo Mobile offerings really don’t. – Graham
Bad people
CHEMICAL MONITORING: For many gacha games I play, make no mistake: monetizing gacha is inherently predatory, which automatically goes bad! – Josh
CONSTRUCTION MODE: After years of trying a really horrible new “mode” that doesn’t add any interesting games, lately Fire icon hero efforts have shown interesting ideas such as Pawns of Loki and Summoner Duels. However, these tested the patience of the players, as the escalating power and prematurely failing units made them a lot harder to play. Hopefully we can see some work to fix these. (And hey, maybe fixing some old stuff would be nice too! Like skill- and merge-dependent scoring, this limits creativity and favors whales.) – Graham
FEH PASS CHOICE: I hate the Feh Pass proprietary ignition system. Some banners now give you a guaranteed character if you pull 40 times…if you subscribe. It feels pretty predatory and I’m not a fan. Don’t lock that behind a registry, Smart System. – Jenny
MORE FH PASS OPTIONS: Honestly, I don’t hate Feh Pass in principle. The idea of paying a small amount and getting a well-deserved bonus set? To me more palatable than normal microtransactions, paying a pile for very little. But quality of life features like more auto-combat and balance issues like enhanced summoner support? That’s less than great. – Graham
Still missing
KEEP ONLY FOR ONE HERO: We’re missing the male protagonists as the focal point, free per book. So far we’ve had Fjorm, Peony, Reginn and now Ash. The heroines are great! But I need a hero. – Jenny
MORE LOVE OF SPINOFF: While there was a brief nod at Tokyo Mirage Sessions A few years ago, the spinoff heroes were abandoned in the cold. We want Code! We want Warrior, something like that, even though those characters aren’t special! – Graham
A TRADITIONAL STAGE: I wouldn’t mind an official player, a player Fire Emblem The game uses the original characters and elements of Fire icon hero! When did that happen? – Josh
KELLAM: IT I suspect so? I assume he might be in there somewhere and I never know. – Graham
