“Love is Blind” is known as a cliché — and an addictive Netflix show. It is also coming true for more data providers, according to recent data from Match users.
Nearly half, 49%, of the 5,000 people surveyed said they had a crush on someone they weren’t initially attracted to. Ten years ago, only 38% of data people said so.

- ninety four% of data providers want someone they can trust and confide in
- 92% data providers want a person to feel comfortable communicating their wants and needs
- 92% data providers want an emotionally mature person
- 92% data providers want someone who can make them laugh
- 89% of daters who want someone who is comfortable with their gender
Mental health is better than good looks
Other data corroborates that data providers are prioritizing better mental health over appearance.
93% of users on Hinge, owned by Match, are interested in dating someone emotionally vulnerable, according to Hinge’s data. They care more about this than height or income.
They especially want to hear about the potential partner’s values and feelings, as well as their hopes and worries about a relationship.
Big 97% of people are single want to date their mental health provider, and 86% say they’re more likely to go on a second date with someone who mentioned they’d go to therapy on the first date.
Further down the list, underneath all of these traits is physical attractiveness: 86% of data provider value is looking for a potential partner, according to Match data.
